My passion for coaching extends over 30 years. My competition background evolved through show jumping, training horses from early education through to the competition arena, and has taken me on a journey training horses in Europe and extending to roles in Course Design, Coaching riders as an NCAS EA Level 1 Coach and Head Educator for TAFE Equine Studies program.
My passion is with coaching, education, and horses; working in the performance horse industry and enhancing my knowledge of Equine Facilitated Learning has evolved my relationship with horses as teachers about ourselves. I have incorporated these fundamental lessons into my coaching practices to benefit individuals through greater self-awareness and personal development.
The connection we can develop with a horse in jumping creates a unique partnership and bond between horse and rider that is difficult to translate into words. It is unique, as like us as riders, every horse is different in their personality, athletic and learning ability.
To find a platform of understanding between horse and rider is like creating a formula. Utilising my lifetime of experience as a jumping rider, coach, trainer and course designer, I specialise in supporting riders and their horses develop a formula for success with their riding and jumping partnership.
To develop a successful jumping partnership with horse, a rider must explore self-development along the way.
Most commonly a rider will develop their physical riding skills for jumping and that is a very clear visual progression. However, in jumping what is going on with a rider internally with their thoughts and emotions, has a direct impact on the effectiveness of the riding skills and communications with their horse. As horses are sentient beings, it is important a rider has self awareness, positive self talk and belief in themselves to support the success of their jumping partnership.
In our fast-paced, task-driven society, it is easy to lose connection to self. Fears, anxiety, doubts, and worries can take over our thoughts and create limiting beliefs. Engaging with the horses in workshop activities can be such a transformative experience, and set individuals on a path of self-discovery and greater self-awareness. Horses as sentient beings have an amazing ability to hold space for us, so we can experience greater clarity and focus.
Horses do not make judgments or determine outcomes, they support us in exploring ourselves on a deeper level, towards self-discovery.
